Adam and Eve

Two standing figures occupy the centre of the image side by side against an ochre background. Their frontal presence contrasts with the folded bodies found in other paintings from this period. The original couple is reduced to a dense, almost archaic presence. The open palm introduces an enigmatic sign into this frontal composition, giving form to time.
