Fold 2

The body folds in on itself until it becomes almost unreadable. The figure merges with an entanglement of pictorial matter, ochre and rust-coloured strokes, as though the posture itself were absorbing its anatomy. Here, folding inward becomes a way of containing oneself: the body protects itself as much as it exposes itself. The painting no longer merely depicts a figure; through its thickness, overlapping layers and distortions, it becomes the very substance of this constrained body.
